“Instead of working toward retirement, work toward your ideal lifestyle. There is usually a path to get there in a few years instead of a few decades.”
James Clear author of Atomic Habits
This is what Jesus is trying to teach to people that the kingdom of heaven is with you:
No one will say, ‘Look, here it is!’ or, ‘There it is!’; because the Kingdom of God is within you.”
Luke 17:21
Don’t work towards the end only, instead make every day your end goal. The kingdom of heaven is a lifestyle. You work every day for the Kingdom of God and you will receive the Kingdom of God. Remember, God is with you.
Everybody is toiling day and night just to have a comfortable life when they grow old. They would sacrifice their daily life just to get what they want in their last days. However, this is not a good way to live.
“Go ahead—eat your food and be happy; drink your wine and be cheerful. It’s all right with God. 8 Always look happy and cheerful. 9 Enjoy life with the one you love, as long as you live the useless life that God has given you in this world. Enjoy every useless day of it, because that is all you will get for all your trouble. 10 Work hard at whatever you do, because there will be no action, no thought, no knowledge, no wisdom in the world of the dead—and that is where you are going.”
Ecclesiastes 9:7-10
We don’t know when will be our last breath, and so Solomon is trying to say to enjoy life while you still have it. Work hard for your enjoyment. Solomon is not saying to enjoy life by sinning, but to enjoy a ‘good’ life. Remember, we are not working for just our daily life but also towards the end. For, good things come to those who wait.
“Be joyful always, 17 pray at all times, 18 be thankful in all circumstances. This is what God wants from you in your life in union with Christ Jesus.”
1 Thessalonians 5:16-18
