I have said before that in order to be saved you must have faith in Jesus Christ and do good. Doing good works comes naturally in a Christian because it is the Holy Spirit that works in you that is why it is important that you receive the Holy Spirit or else you cannot be saved. The Holy Spirit is God’s mark of ownership that you are His disciple. The question is how does a true Christian bear fruit?
Remember the fruits of the Spirit:
But the Spirit produces love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, humility, and self-control. There is no law against such things as these. And those who belong to Christ Jesus have put to death their human nature with all its passions and desires. The Spirit has given us life; he must also control our lives.
Galatians 5:22-25 (GNT with Deuterocanon)
It is the Spirit of God that produces these fruits that is why it is said that the Spirit has given us life, and the Spirit must control us. As a true Christian, the Spirit controls us and produces fruits by doing good works.
So, you cannot say you are a true Christian if you don’t do good works! It also means that if you are a true Christian then, you will produce good fruits. These fruits are essential because these are our food in order to live. If we don’t love by means of helping others, or praying for them, then you will be thin and dying because you do not produce food. It is said, “for the wages of sin is death…” So, doing bad works will kill you because sin produces death.
Remember, the only way to produce good fruits is to have the Holy Spirit. To have the Holy Spirit you must put your faith in the Lord Jesus Christ and be baptized in water:
“I am telling you the truth,” replied Jesus, “that no one can enter the Kingdom of God without being born of water and the Spirit.
John 3:5 (GNT with Deuterocanon)
