Friendly Mind

Three persons are trying to show off their stuff…

“Look at my new phone, it’s made from 100% renewable energy!” one person said.

“That’s great!” they said.

The other guy said to them, “Mine’s made from 100% recyclable materials!”

“Cool.” They replied.

The last one said in hesitation, “Well, I didn’t buy any stuff, but I made a free blog!”

We almost buy and sell stuff every day, and buying and selling stuff with the environment
in mind is just an afterthought. We are not conscious of what we are
buying or selling could affect the environment and our lives. It is the
same way of creating these products. Manufacturers, services, industries
should change. We must make products that have a conscience.

I know it will be hard, but we don’t have a choice.

Cooling Your Day with Body Spray

I may sound like I’m endorsing a product, but yeah I am (and the title rhymes).

In the news, I read that the government is improving our light rail
transit and that is good news! Why? You don’t have the slightest idea of
how hard to use the public train in our country:

  • Always late because there are not enough trains.
  • It stops mid-way because of brown-outs.
  • No air conditioning. Sometimes it does work, and sometimes it
doesn’t. If it doesn’t, we are drenched in perspiration (sweat) all
    over.

I cannot solve the first two, but the last one maybe I could help a little.

I have been biking almost entirely in life, and it’s easy to sweat
out in our tropical country. However, I hate the smell it produces, and
so I went to a store and saw a body cooling spray cologne.

I tried it and it fairly cooled my body immediately and I smell good too to boot. But, the problem when you need to spray your back, you must hold
it upright. So, the solution was is to cut the tube inside the
container; hold it upside down and spray.

Simple!

The Wind Turbine Ping Pong Balls

Another funny thing happened when I was watching a similar vertical axis turbine when I saw a smaller turbine and looked very familiar:

Wow Air Wind Turbine

I remembered that we make one of these back in grade school to measure the wind speed for meteorology. A problem with my first prototype is it would turn clockwise or counterclockwise. Therefore, the dynamo would turn in two directions which are not favorable. With this “Ping-Pong” balls, the wind is forced to turn it clockwise which is more preferable.

The Wind Turbine Prototype v. 1

I saw wind turbines when we went to Europe along the road and I thought that this is something valuable. It produces electricity using wind as a source that powers households and farms in remote areas. The problem with those is it is fixed in one direction and rotates only when the wind blows to that direction, and thus energy wasted.

There must be a better solution?

I developed a wind turbine that would rotate with winds in different directions. Instead of raising the turbine vertically, the turbine is horizontally flat on the base.

Here is a video of a prototype:

Kind of funny isn’t it? I just bought a $2 kid’s toy. A spinner that
runs without electricity and cut some flaps made out of school supplies
folder and taped it:
